WNA Labs outfitted the Heraeus lab with nine Secuflow fume hoods.
When the Heraeus Precious Metals (HPM) team in Santa Fe Springs, California, set out to upgrade their labs’ six fume hoods, it knew exactly what it needed: a smart, reliable solution that would enhance safety and reduce maintenance downtime.
The older hoods contained a lot of metal components that required more frequent maintenance.
“The constant maintenance work was a hurdle! And because quality and safety are top priority for us, we decided to look for higher-quality fume hoods,” explained Sarine Grigoryan, analytical chemist at HPM. “We researched some local providers, but nothing met the high standards we had set for ourselves. That’s when our colleagues in Germany and South Africa told us how happy they were with their Waldner products, and that we should check it out.”
After meeting with Waldner experts, the HPM team was impressed by the design, performance and innovation behind the products. The Waldner fume hoods offered significantly more internal space, enabling lab staff to conduct multiple experiments simultaneously and deliver results more efficiently. Unique features—including a motion-sensor sash that automatically closes when not in use—not only enhanced protection for lab personnel but also drastically reduced energy consumption.
Waldner stoneware worktops are built to withstand extreme chemical and mechanical conditions in the lab.
Heraeus ultimately chose to fully renovate its lab, replacing fume hoods but also work benches and caseworks with Waldner world-class products. Waldner’s team developed a custom upgrade plan to ensure the new furniture was tailored to the lab’s specific operations. This included the installation of nine Secuflow fume hoods specially designed for applications requiring the safe handling of metals at higher temperatures.
To further enhance durability and performance, the lab was outfitted with stoneware countertops—that withstand high temperatures and exposure to harsh chemicals and are also scratch resistant. Select casework also features high-resistance glass countertops, adding a sleek, modern aesthetic to the space.
“The refurbishment was a game changer!” Grigoryan said. “Now we can even conduct multiple filtrations and digestions inside of the hoods, thanks to the added capabilities. Maintenance is much simpler. Not only are the hoods far superior to what we had, they look fantastic too! We constantly get compliments on our lab.”
