The Frick Chemistry Laboratory at Princeton University, New Jersey, has embraced sustainability from the start. Inaugurated in 2010, the building was designed with a range of environmentally conscious features—from large glass windows that maximize natural light to water-saving systems and a smart, flexible layout that makes the most of every square foot. Naturally, the selection of fume hoods followed the same strategy, prioritizing both sustainability and efficiency.

“The Chemistry department is one of the biggest energy consumers on campus, mainly because of our extensive use of fume hoods,” said Stellios Maroulis, Facility Manager at Frick Chemistry Lab. “So, it was crucial to choose a provider that prioritized not only safety, but also sustainability. Waldner fume hoods were selected for their advanced technologies that addressed both concerns—and I’m happy they were. After all these years, all 200+ hoods have remained efficient and precise, even after constant exposure to chemicals, research and experimental use.”

Given the demanding nature of the experiments—ranging from analyzing chemical reactions to studying properties like acidity and oxidation—the fume hoods required exceptional maintenance and reliable support.

“These fume hoods are top of the line. And just like a fine car that stays on the road for decades with proper service, these hoods continue delivering top performance with the right care,” Maroulis explained. “Plus, customer service has always been outstanding! We’ve had a great experience with our WNA Labs technician, who was key to keeping everything in our lab running at its best after all these years.”

The Frick Chemistry Lab team was so pleased with the quality fume hoods that, a few years after the lab opened, they expanded operations and installed a few more.
